Chronic Musculoskeletal Disorders

The term musculoskeletal disorders encompasses health problems the locomotor apparatus such as: muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints and nerves. The causes of musculoskeletal pain varies from damage with the wear and tear of daily activities to trauma on a bigger scale namely: fractures, dislocations, accidents, direct blows to the body etc. Musculoskeletal disorders can extend to those of a more chronic nature such as overuse, bad postural habits, viruses, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, prolonged immobilisation, scoliosis etc.

Patients suffering with musculoskeletal disorders complain of pain felt over the entire body with the three main symptoms being pain, fatigue and sleep disturbances. Once these symptoms are experienced for a chronic duration patients often start to present with depression further aggravation their pain and decreasing their quality of life. Chiropractic is able to play a vital role in the diagnosing of the cause of the symptoms and then also returning the patient to a more functional state through the use of spinal alignment, nerve stimulation and muscle therapy. All in all improving the patient’s quality of life and movement.
